從2020年，Facebook 因為元宇宙的理念，正式改名為Meta之後，這個概念就迅速席捲全球！《Snow Crash》這本書中對元宇宙的願景正在現實世界中發生，而在更早的《The Matrix》，人們能夠在虛擬和現實之間自由的選擇，而2018 年上映的頭號玩家 （Ready Player One）更被認為是詮釋元宇宙（Metaverse）概念的經典電影。到底元宇宙的真實面貌是什麼？
元宇宙，其實是我們通過某個媒介可以輕鬆進入的一個全新網路世界。在這個網路世界中，我們可以隨心所欲活我們想要的生活，也可以打破現實社會選擇只有一種的限制。在這個虛擬的宇宙中，我們可以擁有更多的不同生活模式。這種看似是養成遊戲的基礎模式，實際是我們另類人生的展現。
相續多家遊戲公司宣布開發元宇宙遊戲，並且融資大量的資金。不少人看到資金流入，就認為這是一場資本遊戲，因而感覺元宇宙是泡沫世界，事實真的是這樣嗎？ 元宇宙雖是虛擬的世界，但始終架構在現實的設備和網路空間之中的。元宇宙可以帶來的好處在於兩點。
第一點，創造就業機會。
元宇宙中需要大量的建築物，需要有大量類似於真實生活的細節。這些都是需要專業的技術人員去進行Coding 工作和設計的。例如，元宇宙研究專家、活動策劃師、生態系統開發人員、硬件工程師、故事講述者、世界建設者、網絡安全專家等等。
第二點，使得教育生動有趣。
從前歷史讀到古埃及文化，最多只能透過課本看到金字塔圖片加以想像。如今透過 VR 的技術配合元宇宙，學生可以直接身歷其境般進入金字塔、甚至看到木乃伊，盡情探索古埃及世界。這些都是書本無法提供的體驗。
當然，這個理念要實現，單憑想像也是不夠的，技術的根本才是支持這個理念發展速度的關鍵！ 因此學習並且提升技術，才是我們當下需要操作的！
